Three Simple Ways to Find Brands to Pitch Your Artwork

Once you start creating artwork for products, the world begins to look different. Every aisle becomes a tiny gallery. Every shelf becomes a quiet invitation. And suddenly you realise that potential clients are not hiding at all. They’re right there in front of you, waiting to be noticed.
These are three simple ways I find brands to pitch my artwork to. They’re intuitive, a little playful, and they turn everyday life into a creative treasure hunt.
Everyday product spotting
The first method is beautifully old fashioned. I simply pay attention.
When I’m wandering through the mall or picking up groceries or browsing homeware stores, I look at everything with artwork on it. Candles with illustrated labels. Tea towels with patterns. Kids clothing with tiny characters. Packaging with florals or botanicals or soft seasonal motifs.
If something catches my eye, I flip the tag or take a photo. I make a note of the brand. Later, with a warm cup of chai beside me, I send a gentle cold pitch introducing my work.
It feels natural because it grows out of real life. If a brand is already using artwork, they already value design. They already understand the magic that illustration brings to a product. And that makes them wonderful people to reach out to.

AI guided brand discovery
The second method lives online. I use Google or AI to find local companies that use illustration on their products. It’s like widening the lens. Suddenly you see boutique brands, small studios, eco friendly makers, and quiet little labels that don’t always show up in traditional searches.
I look for companies that collaborate with artists or release seasonal collections or use illustrated packaging. I search for phrases like artist collaboration or illustrated packaging NZ or surface design collection.
This method feels like opening a window. It brings in fresh air and new possibilities. It helps me find brands I would never stumble across in person.
The cheeky community method
This one always makes me smile.
I look at artists in my own surface design community. Artists whose style sits near mine. Artists who are licensing their work in beautiful ways. Then I explore the brands they’ve collaborated with.
If a brand has worked with one artist, they often work with many. They already understand licensing. They already appreciate artist made work. And they’re usually open to discovering new voices.
It’s not copying. It’s simply noticing where the doors are already open.
Final thought
Finding clients doesn’t have to feel heavy or complicated. It can feel like curiosity. It can feel like noticing. It can feel like walking through the world with your eyes a little wider and your heart a little softer.
Once you start paying attention to the illustrated world around you, you’ll realise there are far more opportunities than you ever imagined.
